Snowmobile Business Magazine - April 1988
Thief River Falls, Minnesota - Arctco Inc., manufactureres of Arctic Cat Snowmobiles, recently issued a "no thanks" response to a $25 million dollar acquisition proposal from EIP Associates, Garden City, New York. EIP an affiliate of Shearson Lehman Hutton, is General Partner of Polaris Industries General Partnership, which acquired Polaris last fall.
The proposal and subsequent position statements from both Minnesota based snowmobiles manufacturers, was made public by an article in the March 16th issue of The Minneapolis Star Tribune which disclosed the offer.
Chris Twomey, president and chief executive officer of Arctco, issued a firm response to the proposal, saying the Thief River Falls manufacturer would "take appropriate" measures in blocking the proposal merger.

ReplyDeleteTHANK GOD COULD YOU IMAGINE A SNOWMOBILE WORLD WHERE AS ARCTIC AND POLARIS WERNT COMPETITERS?? YES WE ALL KNOW EDGAR HETEENS ROLE IN BOTH BUT FOR THE SAKE OF SNOWMOBILING THEASE 2 COMPANIES NEED TO KEEP BITING AT THE OTHERS HEELS !! LOL 1
ReplyDeleteLet's face it. Artco is probably on its way out. They are by far the smallest of the ' Big Four'. Their sales are much less than the other 3 manufacturers, and they don't stand behind their product- warranty wise. They are in trouble. Yamaha will absorb them. Time will tell.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that will ever happen, as some one who asa kid lived threw their goin out of business in 1981 what saved them then will save them today "brand loyalty ". but I will say this ! this "joint venture" thing with Yamaha is bad for arctic and great for Yamaha ! look for Yamaha to return to sno-cross and be competitive again !!
