1980 JOHN DEERE SNOWMOBILES

October 1979 - Here Is John Deere's Claim For 1980.
"YOU CAN'T STAY AHEAD OF THE COMPETITION ANYMORE BY JUST BEING FAST" - As long as you stay on smooth frozen  lakes, raw speed may be all you demand from your snowmobile, but if you want to keep up your speed on the trail, you may demand more.
   More agility, More stability, More maneuverability.  It takes superb balance for a sled to perform stable maneuvers at high speeds. A low center of gravity. A specially engineered suspension system. And a host of other design improvements.
   John Deere claimed, that these happen to be the kinds of improvements we've been making at John Deere.

1981POLARIS GEMINI

The 1981 Gemini from Polaris Industries was their low price model at only 355 pounds, but its fuel economy was more MPG than any other in two years of industry-wide independent testing.
The Gemini featured a 244cc single cylinder engine with A Progressive Compression Slide Rail  suspension with a rubber cleated track.

ABOUTMYSELF

I would like to tell you a little more about myself.  As I've illustrated in my profile within this blog, my life has been centered around snowmobiles which includes the present time.  I was a Rupp dealer from 1969 thru it's death in 1978.  In 1980, I, along with some help made an attempt to bring Rupp Industries back into existence.  "GO HERE", To read all about this attempt.  In 1984, I moved to South Dakota and went on to expand my snowmobile parts and accessories operation by the name of SnoCat Shack and later was renamed Sport Shack, because of a legal matter.  I sold Sport Shack in 1996 and started a company by the name of Battery Shack and sold over 14,000 batteries in 10 years. PRICES OF 1976 SNOWMOBILES

August 1975 - Suggested retail prices for the 1976 model snowmobiles ranged from just under $1,000. to more than $2,000.
  This does not include highest performance racing models for which all manufacturers have not published prices. It appeared, however, that prices of most of the liquid cooled racing models were around $2,500.
  Prices were generally up from 5 to 15% from the previous year, albeit, somewhat less than some sources earlier predicted.

YAMAHA V-MAX UPGRADES

December, 1984 - V-Max Mods Proving Popular. Before going into production with The 1985 V-Max, Yamaha engineers strongly considered and almost won approval for factory modifications that reportedly add 3-5 percent more horsepower.
   Although the mods, which included some porting changes, were not done at the factory.  Yamaha dealers were authorized to do the modifications for performance minded customers.
   According to reports from the field, as many as half of all new V-Max buyers were having the mod work done before delivery.

SKI-DOO'S ANNIVERSARY EDITION

The 1984 Ski-Doo SS25 Anniversary Edition - 1959-1984 Ski-Doo 25th. The all-new SS25 was the proud result of a quarter century of snowmobile manufacturing.
   The powerplant is a fast 462.8cm Rotax engine with Rotary Valves Liquid Cooled engine.  The flotation, traction and climbing ability of this strong, lightweight sled was said to be nothing short of amazing.
   The overall design of the SS25 offered track-bred aerodynamics plus a low center of gravity for incredible balance and stability.
   For an extra cushiony ride, The SS25 offered a new longer travel suspension which was called the TRS6.  With the SS25, convenience was built right in with standard features such as speedometer, tach, electric fuel gauge, low oil and high beam pilot lights.  It came standard with oil injection, CD Ignition and a 3 ramp clutch.
